Grossmont College Tournament
The Point Loma Speech and Debate team participated in a full service debate and individual events tournament this past Saturday and Sunday at Grossmont College. Approximately 20 colleges and universities from Arizona and California participated, including ASU, SDSU, Cal State Long Beach, etc. Point Loma won First Place in Overall Sweepstakes, and also earned more debate sweepstakes points than other competitors. This was an especial exciting victory given the relative youth of this team and the balanced wins in debate and individual events.
Both of our Senior debate teams, one of our Junior teams, and four of our Novice teams from the debate class advanced to the elimination brackets based on strong preliminary round records. Individual Events also went very well, led by Griffith Vertican who won awards in all five of the events he entered in addition to closing out the final round in debate with Andrew Hoag, Jordan Cherry, and Elly Garner.
