Mr. Marston has made nationwide headlines in the last couple of years as he is a driving force behind the recent alteration of California's political and electoral system. First, in 2010, he co-authored legislation (Prop 14 - the "Top Two Open Ballot Initiative") that called for a single ballot in the state's primary elections, whereby any voter can vote for any party and the top two candidates - of any party - advance to the general election. The initiative passed and has dramatically altered partisan politics in California. Now, Mr. Marston and his political partner (from the opposite side of the aisle) are taking their initiative all the way to the top, as they seek a top two primary system for presidential elections in the state of California. They are gaining many supporters and detractors along the way. Heck, even Colbert "reported" on the initiatives.
Mr. Marston has served as the City of San Diego's lobbyist in Sacramento, as a CA State Assemblyman, and as a legislative aide. For more background on Mr. Marston and his PR firm, see here.
Please RSVP to join us for this fascinating discussion on the shifting nature of California politics.
