NCCFI - Azusa Pacific University

The PLNU Speech and Debate Team competed very successfully in the Third Annual National Christian College Forensics Invitational this last weekend in Azusa, CA. Pt Loma came in a strong Second Place in the nation behind host school Azusa Pacific University, which put on a terrific tournament that pitted top Christian Colleges and Universities from across the country. The Council of Christian Colleges and Universities and Regent University were Co Sponsors of the tournament along with APU.

Although the host school was competing in over 60 different speeches compared to Point Loma's entry of just over 40 speeches we still gave them a run for their money thanks in large part to strong efforts in Debate and Interpretive Events. While the individual and team debate accomplishments will be listed below, special congratulations go to Kanaan, Nathan Brisby and Katie Angliss who won First Place, Third Place and Sixth Place in the Pentathlon Event for overall top Individual Events competitors. These speakers must be entered in at least 5 events to even compete. Each of our speakers were also competing in debate which did not count toward this award.

It should be pointed out that the next three teams to advance in the Open and Novice Divisions would have been the Point Loma teams of Mandy Bouck and Kanaan, Brenda Stagner and Janae Magee, and Evan Rutledge and Kathy Wright. They all had sufficient win/loss records to advance, but lost the tie breakers on speaker points.
