Dr. Melody Stevens graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2003 and then received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Azusa Pacific University in 2008. Currently she is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and President of Onward Physical Therapy, which restores function to those suffering from debilitating vertigo and reduces fall risk for those with balance challenges.

Russ & Karen Vande Vegte – Physical Therapists

Russ Vande Vegte graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1982 with a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training. He continued his education at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL receiving a degree in Physical Therapy in 1986. Vandevegete has been working at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego for the past 26 years. He works in an outpatient orthopedic setting sharing his time between patient care and administrative duties. He has been married for 25 years to his wife, Karen, who is also a physical therapist. They have 3 young adult children. He has enjoyed coaching soccer the past 15 years. He also enjoys the great outdoors and participating in various sports.

Karen Vande Vegte graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL in 1986 with a degree in Physical Therapy.  While there, she met her husband, Russ, who is also a physical therapist.  Karen works at Kaiser Permanente and has specialized in various areas of PT including acute care, stroke rehab, orthopedics, vestibular therapy, and currently the area of urogynecology.  She enjoys participating in many extracurricular activities including sports and spending time with family and friends.

Dr. Jason Higgins – Doctor of Chiropractic and Nutritional Health

Dr. Jason Higgins graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2003 with a B.A. in management and Organizational Communications and then received his Chiropractic Doctorate from Southern California University of Health Sciences in 2008. Currently Higgins works as a doctor of chiropractic and nutritional health at Chiropractic and Therapy Center of Carlsbad.

Troy Lake – Coach

Troy Lake has been part of Coast since 2008.  Before moving to San Diego, he was on staff as the Assistant Head Varsity and Head Freshman Coach for C.D. Hylton High school in Woodbridge, VA.  Lake also diversified his coaching career as the head coach for 16-1Clash Volleyball Club in Manassas, VA, and Head Coach of the Evangel Baptist Church School, Dale City, VA.Throughout his time at Coast, Lake has coached and assisted in the training of various age groups and skill levels.  He has coached at Carmel Valley & Diegueno Middle Schools and is currently the Head Girls JV and Assistant Head Girls Varsity Coach at Point Loma High School.  He was a key supporter and fundraiser for the “Protect Our Pointers Organization” that supports Point Loma’s athletic teams and their ability to have paid Sports Trainers/Physical Therapists, on-site during training sessions and sporting events. Lake adds a fresh coaching style and enthusiasm to Coast Volleyball Club & Point Loma High School.  He not only enjoys coaching the game; he also plays at every opportunity that arises.

Leslie Mansour 

Leslie Mansour graduated from San Diego State University with dual masters in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition. Mansour interned at Fitness Quest 10, Rehab United, and San Diego Cardiac Center.  She also conducted boot camps at Fitness 2 Wed. Mansour was an Academic Advisor at San Diego State from 2005 to 20011. She went back into the field of Exercise Physiology as a Certification Education Consultant for the American Council on Exercise. She is now working as an independent physical trainer and Nutrition Specialist.

Karynn LaMonda – Regional Manager of Personal Training

24 Hour Fitness Regional Manager of Personal Training for San Diego and Orange County.  Karynn LaMonda has worked in the industry, with 24 Hour Fitness for over 13 years.  She has a vast array of field experience, as she started with the company at the front desk.  She worked her way to a Personal Trainer, then Fitness Manager and then to a District Fitness Manager.  From there she became a Club Manager (General Manager) for 4 years and managed 3 different locations.  She has been in her current role for almost 2 years, since the position was created.

In 2011, LaMonda was awarded Club Manager of the year and served on the very first Club Leadership Council for 24 Hour Fitness.  This council worked with the Senior team and helped give feedback and field views on certain topics and key decisions.

LaMonda currently holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Fitness Health and Nutrition from San Diego State University and a certification from NESTA (National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association).  When she was actively training, she held many certifications such as NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) NCSF (National Council of Strength and Fitness) and ISSA (International Sports Science Association).

Jessica Matthews - Exercise Physiologist

Jessica Matthews is an Exercise Physiologist for the American Council on Exercise and a media spokesperson and fitness blogger. She is an adjunct professor at MiraCosta College, teaching courses in the Department of Kinesiology, Health and Nutrition (Yoga Certification Program),  as well as an adjunct professor at Miramar College, teaching courses in the Department of Exercise Science, Health and Nutrition (Fitness Specialist Program). She holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education teacher education from Coastal Carolina University and a master’s degree in physical education from Canisius College, as well as two ACE certifications (Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer); she is also an experienced registered yoga teacher (E-RYT) through Yoga Alliance. Prior to her role at ACE, Matthews was the aquatics director for Conway Medical Wellness and Fitness Center, a hospital-based wellness center. She has also designed curriculum for health and physical education, grades K-12. As an ACE spokesperson and blogger, Matthews writes weekly on Fitbie.com has been featured as a fitness expert on CNN and New York PIX 11 News and has also been quoted in various publications including The New York Post, Shape Magazine, The Wall Street Journal and O, The Oprah Magazine.

Jeremy Solano - Spine Specialist

Jeremy Solana graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2007 with a Business Communication degree. Currently he works as a Spine Specialist at Globus Medical, which is a leading spinal implant manufacturer driving significant technological advancements across a complete suite of spinal products and is driven to utilize superior engineering and technology to achieve pain free, active lives for all patients with spinal disorders.

Liz Zborowski - Occupational Therapist

Liz Zborowski is a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in Exercise Science in 1998 and in Occupational Therapy in 1999. She is a Point Loma community native. Currently, she works at UCSD Medical Center. She began her career as the primary burn and pediatric OT at UCSD, then continued her career at Rady Children's Hospital working in inpatient, acute rehab, school based therapy and outpatient therapy. In 2004, Zborowski returned to UCSD Medical Center to work in the neonatal intensive care unit. Presently, she works part-time in inpatient adult acute care, is a clinical instructor, and serves on various department committees.
