PSCFA Speech League's Novice Cool Off Speach Tournament - Palomar College

Date:
Saturday, April 26, 2008 (All day) - Sunday, April 27, 2008 (All day)
Location:
Palomar College, San Marcos, CA

Some of the members of the 10th section of COM 100 Introduction to Public Speaking Class volunteered to participate in our PSCFA Speech League’s Novice Cool Off Speech tournament held this weekend at Palomar College, competing against several hundred other novice speakers. Six of our students were fortunate enough to advance to the final round at this, their very first tournament, even against many students that have been competing for other schools at tournaments all year long. Although, at 95 degrees Fahrenheit I am thinking we may want to change the name of the event.

Students advanced to Final rounds

  • Rachel Tennant – 3rd Place Informative Speaking
  • Tessa Troth – Finalist Informative Speaking
  • Lily Rainey – Finalist Persuasive Speaking
  • Matthew Garrett – Finalist Persuasive Speaking
  • McKenzie Jank – Finalist Impromptu Speaking
  • Jonathan Reeser - Finalist Impromptu Speaking

Thanks too to Grant Beeson, PLNU Speech Team member for helping to judge at this event and to Emily Tapia,Terhas Demoze, William Frontiera, Rennell Diaz, Mikael Hartmark, Siobhan Roy, and Hunter Lysaught for their participation in this very challenging activity. Hopefully some will represent Point Loma on the intercollegiate speech and debate team next year.
