Six of the seven Pt Loma debate teams advanced to the elimination brackets in Parliamentary debate. Shown below is how these debate teams did in elimination rounds.

Amber Briggs and Grant Beeson dropped in Octa Finals in Junior Division Parliamentary Debate, with Grant winning a speaker award.

In the Open Division - Katie Lucas was named the Top Speaker overall and Caitlyn Burford was named 6th speaker, not bad for two sophomores.

In individual Events Katie Lucas was a finalist in Jr. Persuasion; Margaret Urfer was a finalist in Jr Informative; Amber Briggs won First Place in Jr. Prose, and 3rd Place in Jr. Rhetorical Criticism; Angela Compton won 5th Place in Sr Extemp; Daniel Nadal was a finalist in Jr Impromptu; Manny Alvarez won 2nd Place in Jr. Programmed Oral Interp and was a Jr Prose Interp Finalist and Elizabeth Hinton won 3rd Place in Novice Informative.

Point Loma led the league in naming 5 students to the All Conference Academic Team, an honor reserved for competitors that maintain a 3.75 GPA. These honors went to Daniel Nadal, Katie Lucas, David Kruckenberg, Chris Gutierrez, and Brandon Walsh (studying abroad this semester).

Finally, the league selects one or two seniors each year from all the students competing in the region to win the coveted Bovero Award. Last year PLNU Student Griffith Vertican won this award. This year Leia Larson won one of the two awards presented, which came with a cash scholarship. You may recall that Leia has served her nation as a U. S. Marine attack helicopter gunner in tours in Iraq and elsewhere. You may have heard her as frequent guest on Roger Hedgecock's radio show.
