I want to pass along my sincere thanks and those of the PLNU speech and debate team for the campus support that helped to make this weekends' two National circuit speech tournaments (Friday's Round Robin Tournament of Champions, and Saturday and Sunday's Sunset Cliffs Classic) so successful. Once again, most of the students and faculty from the 70 or so colleges and universities attending want to move here, enroll here, and/or take my job.

This year was another banner year, and much of that can be attributed to the hard work and wonderful stewardship of the many elements of this community. We appreciate the support of the professors for allowing the Pt Loma team to participate and to host these two large functions. We are also grateful to all the staff and administrative personnel that provided cheerful service when it was most needed. We especially thank those of you (including an amazing group of alumni) that came out to enjoy some of the debates or to help judge. The biggest thanks go to Professor Melissa Lazaro and our terrific hard working students who were tireless in their commitment.

Most of our students were too busy helping to host these events to compete, but we did have a couple of students that competed, and competed at a high level.

Ashley Nuckels advanced to the semi finals in Open Division Prose.

Noelle Seybert and April Griffin advanced to the Quarter Final round of Parliamentary Debate.

April won Top Speaker in the entire division.

Noelle won Ninth Place Speaker.

We were very happy with these students' results at one of the most competitive events of the year. Although we call the big tournament The Sunset Cliffs Classic, the community sometimes calls it the Bloodbath by the Beach to indicate how difficult the competition is.
