Todd Lewis Invitational Hosted on Biola University's Campus
This past weekend the PLNU debate team competed in two tournaments hosted on Biola University's campus. The outcomes are listed below. This team, made up primarily of first and second year debaters, is doing remarkably well against very tough competition often with much greater experience.
Biola's Todd Lewis Invitational Tournament (Friday and Saturday October 19-20)) :
Point Loma entered just three two person teams in this event and no individual events. Two teams were entered in the Senior Division (Caitlyn Burford & Katie Lucas, and Daniel Nadal and Jaimee Wanta) and one in Novice (Hannah King and Paul Young). They each debated four preliminary rounds without dropping a single ballot, easily advancing to the elimination rounds. King and Young earned a Bronze Award in Novice. Nadal and Wanta won their Octa Final round and dropped in Quarter Finals. Burford and Lucas won their Octas, and Quarters and dropped in Semis on a split decision. The following four PLNU debaters won top speaker honors as well:
Hannah King: 8th Speaker - Novice
Jaimee Wanta 10th Speaker - Senior
Katie Lucas 11th Speaker - Senior
Caitlyn Burford 20th Speaker - Senior
Our hearts and prayers go out to the members of the community impacted by the fires, and our heartfelt thanks for the answered prayers of sparing the homes of both Professor Lazaro and Dr. Hueth from our Communication and Theatre Department, despite extremely close calls for both.
