Fall Poetry Day 2016
October 13, Thursday
Afternoon Tea with Nicelle Davis  3:00-4:30
Evening Reading  6:30-8:00
Fermanian Conference Center

Each year, the Department of Literature, Journalism & Modern Languages showcases the living art of poetry.

Begun in 1998, Poetry Day features a contemporary poet of renown, presenting his or her work in a variety of campus venues. These include speaking to literature classes, being honored at a department tea, and conducting a poetry reading open to the campus, community, and surrounding colleges and universities. Both a richly educational experience for students and a positive outreach for Point Loma Nazarene University, the day celebrates the gift of poetic expression, the intersection of intellect, spirit, and art.

Previous poets include: Pulitzer Prize-winning poet W. D. Snodgrass, famed New Formalist poets Timothy Steele and Annie Finch; award-winning, multi-published author, poet, and writing mentor Donald Hall; Al Young, novelist, essayist, poet; award-winning poets and poetry translators Mary Crow and Carolyne Wright; noted Christian poets Lucy Shaw, Madelyn DeFrees, and Scott Cairns, and foremost Liberian poet and essayist Patricia Jabbeh Wesley. Future Poetry Days will be planned for each fall semester, and PLNU alumni and guests are welcomed.
