Department of Sociology & Social Work
Sociology and Social Work Mission Statement:
As followers of Christ, our mission is to nurture servant scholars who critically evaluate social and cultural patterns, and constructively engage as agents of hope.
Why Sociology or Social Work?
If you want to expand your understanding of and empathy for human society, consider a degree in sociology or social work. Learning from a Christian viewpoint, you'll gain skills that go beyond the classroom, reaching into the lives of people with diverse needs. You will be part of an environment that fosters questioning and growth and is working to build a foundation for the future. With programs in sociology, social work, and criminal justice, you can dig deeper into the study of people and society as a whole.
Center for Justice & Reconciliation
Our Center for Justice and Reconciliation (CJR) is committed to exploring the social and economic implications of Christ's reconciliatory work on the cross and to speaking against oppressive powers. Among other events and activities, the CJR hosts a South Africa study abroad program during alternating summers and most recently launched Beauty for Ashes, a scholarship fund that supports the education of survivors of human trafficking.
PLNU is committed to continuous and transparent alignment of our curriculum with the highest national standards. Learn about assessment.
