Potential Special Education teachers are strongly encouraged to enroll in EDU533 Foundations of Special Education and Students with Disabilities as early as their freshman or sophomore year, to confirm their interest in pursuing a career in special education.
- Liberal Studies majors who are truly called to serve diverse populations will find a wide open job market and a rewarding career ahead of them.
- Family and Consumer Science majors and Psychology majors often have the academic preparation and disposition to serve students with special needs.
There is also a growing need for Special Education teachers with content specific majors such as mathematics, science, and english who sense a calling to teach special student populations at the middle school or high school level.
