Office of Multicultural & International Student Services

Celebrate Diversity!

"We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value ... no matter their appearance." - Maya Angelou

Letter from the Director

As the Director of this amazing department I am delighted that you have decided to join us here at Point Loma Nazarene University. To our incoming freshmen, transfers and returning students, I hope that you can find the information on this website useful in navigating around our campus and getting to know the office of Multicultural and International Student Services. Our mission is to provide an opportunity for PLNU students to integrate with rich multicultural heritages and interact with diverse cultures by promoting inter-group awareness, healthy identity, and inclusiveness through intentional educational programming. The International student services aspect of our office specifically provides appropriate support services for international students and is dedicated to fostering cross-cultural respect, perspectives, and appreciation towards global citizenship.

The office of Multicultural and International Student Services (MISS) oversees two main areas, MOSAIC (Multicultural Opportunities for Students Actively Involved in Community) and International Student Services. MOSAIC houses six multicultural student clubs: Association of Latin American Students (ALAS), Asian Student Union (ASU), Black Student Union (BSU), B.R.E.A.K. (Beauty, Revival, Equity, Action, Knowledge), Hui O’Hawaii, U.N.I.T.E. (Uniting Nationals and International students Through Education). Our mentoring program, Team Barnabas, focuses on mentoring between freshmen and upperclassmen. The heart of the office of MISS is the members of the clubs and organizations. MOSAIC clubs intentionally seek to deliver a cross-cultural, intercultural, and multicultural educational component in programming.

The office also serves international students from visa application to graduation. These services include admission counseling, SEVIS maintenance and OPT/CPT counseling. MISS provides social opportunities to the entire Point Loma Campus.

Because of the inclusive mindset of this department we welcome students from all walks of life and all students are encouraged to make the choice to be challenged by the many diverse opportunities offered through programming, student leadership, and cultural awareness. Each one of our students is highly encouraged daily to share their own unique story and at the same time celebrate and respect the story of their peers.

I encourage you to be a part of the MOSAIC family. If you would like to learn more about these programs, we are located in the Bond Academic Building, Rm 142. You can reach me at 619.849-2524 or I am looking forward to hearing from you and celebrating your story.
