International students are a unique and important part of the PLNU community and are encouraged to work as part of their college experience. However, federal law places some very strict mandates on Student Employment for internationals. They are permitted to work ONLY on campus at a MAXIMUM of 20 hours per week while school is in session, and 40 hours per week during breaks.
Please work closely with your international student employees to make certain that they do not exceed these limits. This is especially a concern when the student works in more than one department on campus. That student’s combined hours from both departments must not exceed the prescribed limits. Violation of this law could result in heavy penalties for both the student and the University.
