San Diego, CA – Short films produced by two PLNU students were recently recognized at the BestFest America film festival. Bryan Bangerter’s comedy/musical “She Sang, She Directed” received first place in the comedy genre. Blake Nelson’s comedy “Kisses and Pudding” received an honorable mention in the comedy competition. The UltraStar cinemas at the Mission Valley Hazard Center hosted this year’s BestFest America on November 7.

“She Sang, She Directed” was about a young director who sold a witty script to producers that wanted to change everything about it, actors that were not cooperative, and a producer who was overwhelmed by the whole process of Hollywood. The music and songs in the short were all original. Bangerter and his crew collaborated with students from the music department to create the music and the theater department for the acting.

“ I was happy to be honored along with my co-writers and orchestrator, Daniel Page, Andrew Gumm and Chris Tweedy,” said Bangerter. “It was fun to see it with an audience.” Bangerter said he is waiting to hear from a number of other festivals. He also is planning to release a DVD of the short film later this month. It can be purchased at for $25.
