B.A. and M.A., Point Loma Nazarene University
Susan DeCristofaro Rogers feels fortunate to be serving the ECLC as academic director. When she was a college student, the ECLC became an extremely influential aspect of her training. Later, both her children attended the ECLC. As a parent, Rogers feels the ECLC played a vital part in her children’s development emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically. PLNU is truly blessed to have a laboratory school on campus. It is a classroom within a classroom.
Rogers also teaches early childhood courses for the Department of Sociology, Social Work and Family Sciences: Early Childhood Education, Administration in Early Childhood Education, and Development of Children with Special Needs. She has a B.A. in child development and a M.A. in teaching and learning. Rogers enjoys walking, cooking, and spending time with her family.
Savonia Guy
Site Director/Story Bear Teacher
sguy@pointloma.edu
(619) 849-2977
Savonia Guy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, a Master’s degree in Education, and a California Teaching Credential. With over 18 years of experience in early childhood education, she has spent six of those years teaching kindergarten at a Title I public school, where she implemented a constructivist model of teaching and learning. For the past three years, Savonia has also served as an adjunct professor in Point Loma Nazarene University’s Adult Degree Completion Program, teaching courses in Child Development and supporting future educators as they grow in their professional practice.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach, honoring each child as capable, curious, and full of potential. She believes that children learn best through hands-on exploration, meaningful relationships, and the joy of discovery—where teachers act as guides who nurture critical thinking, creativity, and compassion.
Married for thirty years, Savonia and her husband, Clark, have raised three wonderful children. Together, they enjoy family adventures, time outdoors, and cheering one another on in all of life’s pursuits.

When not at school, Madeline enjoys being outside, hiking or taking walks, or spending time with her friends and family.
