Son Chae Kim, PhD, RN

Associate Dean, Graduate Programs
Professor

Dr. Son Chae Kim is serving as the Associate Dean and Professor of the graduate programs at the School of Nursing, Point Loma Nazarene University. Previously, she served as a tenured Professor at Texas State University and taught both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Kim’s area of expertise and scholarship includes workplace violence prevention in various healthcare settings. She has developed and validated the Aggressive Behavior Risk Assessment Tool and the Violent Event Severity Tool. Screening patients with the Aggressive Behavior Risk Assessment Tool and posting signage for the small number of patients at high risk of violence has shown a reduction in violent events in emergency departments. She is also the author of the Kim Alliance Scale that measures the quality of the patient-provider relationship. Dr. Kim is passionate about teaching future nursing leaders to improve healthcare outcomes through nursing research and evidence-based practice. As a Christian educator, she is grateful for the opportunity to teach at PLNU. She loves to spend time with her family and enjoys exploring God’s beautiful creation.
