Aliah Fabros, a rising fourth-year writing major at PLNU, has earned an honorable mention for the 2024 AWP Intro Journals Project with her poem "The Burden of Representation."
According to the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) website, the AWP Intro Journals Project is a "literary competition for the discovery and publication of the best new works by students currently enrolled in AWP member programs."
Fabros's poem "The Burden of Representation" was sent into the AWP Intro Journals Project by Dr. Katie Manning, professor of writing at PLNU. According to Dr. Manning, Fabros's honorable mention is a "major honor":
"[Fabros's] piece was selected out of a huge pool of submissions of both graduate and undergraduate student work. Program directors across the country send these submissions to represent their programs' best work."
The AWP Intro Journals Project winners page shares that the poetry contest was judged by Benin Lemus. Winners of the competition are selected for publication in literary journals, including Colorado Review, Puerto del Sol, Iron Horse Review, and others.
