Student Records & Privacy

The Office of the Registrar maintains the integrity of the academic record and supports students' rights regarding access to and privacy of educational records. This page provides information regarding student record privacy, directory information, access to educational records, and university academic catalogs.

Student Records Privacy (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords eligible students certain rights regarding their education records, including the right to inspect and review those records, request amendment of records they believe are inaccurate or otherwise in violation of their privacy rights, provide written consent before PLNU discloses personally identifiable information from their education records except where FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent, and file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education. PLNU may disclose education records without consent in limited circumstances, including to school officials with legitimate educational interests, and may release directory information unless the student has restricted its release. The complete Education Records (FERPA) and Directory Information statement is available in the PLNU Catalog.

Directory Information

PLNU may designate certain student information as directory information and may release that information without the student’s written consent, unless the student has restricted its release. Directory information may include a student’s name, address, PLNU email address, photo, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, dates of attendance, enrollment status, degrees, honors and awards received, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of athletic team members, degree candidacy, and most recent previous institution attended. Directory information is released in accordance with university policy and may be provided only after appropriate review. Students may review the complete Education Records (FERPA) and Directory Information statement in the PLNU Catalog.

Access to Educational Records

Students have the right to inspect and review their education records maintained by PLNU within 45 days after the university receives a written request for access. Requests should identify the record or records the student wishes to inspect. PLNU will make arrangements for access and notify the student of the time and place where the records may be reviewed. If the requested records are not maintained by the office that receives the request, the student will be directed to the appropriate office.

Academic Catalogs

Academic catalogs serve as the official source for degree requirements, academic policies, course descriptions, academic calendars, and university regulations. Students should consult the catalog associated with their academic program and year of entry.
