Background

Dr. Irwin began teaching at PLNU in 1998. She teaches courses in research methods, cognitive psychology, history of psychology, and personal development. Her research interests include the changes that occur in students who study abroad. In her personal time she enjoys spending time with her family and playing tennis. She began her responsibilities as Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies in 2011, after serving as the Interim Dean in 2010.

Her hobbies include gym activities, hiking, camping, an occasional triathlon, and reading mystery novels. She has two children, Chelsea and Rachael.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for two professional schools with undergraduate and graduate programs – the Fermanian School of Business and the School of Nursing; five academic departments with undergraduate programs – Communication and Theatre, Family and Consumer Sciences, Kinesiology, Psychology, Sociology and Social Work
  • Recruitment and hiring faculty, faculty evaluation, and new faculty seminar
  • Serves on the Academic Policies Committee
