The graduate nursing program at Point Loma Nazarene is accredited by the CCNE and approved by the California BRN.  The program is designed for working professionals.  Classes are held on Tuesday evenings and every other Saturday morning at our Mission Valley Regional Center.  You can choose either an academic or clinical focus.  Clinical Nurse Specialist options are available in the following areas:
  • Mental Health nursing
  • Medical/Surgical nursing
  • Gerontological nursing
  • Family Health nursing

The program is based on the cohort model so students are enrolled throughout the year but all start at the same time together in the fall semester.  They progress through the courses together which allows the students to gain peer friendship, support, and encouragement.  In addition, the students benefit from the diversity of experience and expertise of the other cohort members.  The smaller class size allows for deeper discussion and more faculty interaction.  The inclusion of faith and service allows for opportunities to discuss issues of faith and spirituality.

Students have the ability to have hands-on experience in multi-cultural settings.  Through core courses, nursing clinical specialty and education practicum, and capstone seminars, students gain a solid foundation in advanced practice nursing.  PLNU students benefit from the broad range of clinical preceptors and clinical agencies that are available.

Full or part-time options are available.

Each applicant will interview with the MSN selection committee which is comprised of members of the MSN full-time faculty and staff.  Admission decisions are based upon several variables:
