Using your VA Education Benefits

Step 1. Apply for VA Education Benefits

  • Apply at VA.gov
  • You must have an ID.me or DS Login account

Required Forms

Select the correct application based on your benefit type:

Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33), Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 30), &  the Montgomery GI Bill(R) Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)

Dependents Education Assistance (Chapter 35)

Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E, Chapter 31): 

Step 2. Gather Required Information

Have the following ready before starting your application:

  • Servicemember name and SSN if using transferred benefits
  • Current address and contact information
  • One email address for all VA communication
  • Opt in to VA text messaging when prompted
  • Bank account information for direct deposit

Step 3. What Happens After You Apply

  • The VA application takes about 15 minutes to complete.
  • You will receive a decision letter by mail within approximately 30 business days. This is your Certificate of Eligibility.
  • Students utilizing Chapter 33 and Chapter 35 must verify their enrollment monthly to receive their housing stipend. 

Step 4. Submit Documents to PLNU
You will receive a Workday Action Item with instructions to submit all required documentation.
