Harry Watkins is professor of strategy and sustainability at Point Loma Nazarene University in the Fermanian School of Business (FSB). His current research and teaching focus on sustainability in general, and in particular, on sustainable business practices as a source of competitive advantage and on social/environmental restoration. Watkins is interested in fostering cross-disciplinary and organizational collaboration on sustainability and social justice issues. He is also active in the university’s Sustainability Task Force and has actively integrated “triple-bottom line” principles – e.g., balancing objectives of profitability, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability – into his teaching and research. He is advisor to PLNU’s interdisciplinary sustainability studies minor. Students in Watkins’ “Sustainability in Action” classes do real projects for San Diego organizations. Examples include conducting a carbon footprint analysis for the San Diego Zoo and helping start Westminster Community Garden in Point Loma.
Watkins is a board member at the San Diego Regional Sustainability Partnership, a consortium of the region’s businesses, organizations, governments, and academia.
Prior to his work in sustainability, Watkins spent 30 years in marketing management, market research and analysis, consulting, and business education
