ALAS (Association of Latin American Students)-

¡Hola! ALAS, which means "wings" in Spanish, wants to inspire you to expand your horizons through a Christ-centered atmosphere and participation in cultural activities. ALAS is also here to provide a home environment for Latinos at Point Loma, raise campus awareness of various cultures within the Latino community, and form a ministry that serves Point Loma and its surrounding communities.

We try to get students involved in the cultures that make up Latin America, for both students with Latin American heritage or others who want to learn more. We highlight Latin American news, come together and worship in Spanish, have open discussion in Spanish, and even have a couple of events that involve our local community. At our core, we are a group of people interested in the Latin American culture, and we want to invite you to participate too. ¡Adios!

ASU (Asian Student Union)-

ASU gives people who are interested in and passionate about Asian cultures a place to share that passion with others who feel the same. This will be achieved through club meetings, various social events, and most importantly through the building of relationships. ASU also aims to raise awareness to the PLNU campus about cultures within the Asian community.

Bound4Life-

Bound4Life is the local pro-life club. We strive to provide information about life to many different people. Activities include forums and taking trips to abortion clinics, not in any riotous way, but merely to pray with girls. We hope to show these girls and women that there is more than one option and that life is the better of the two.

BSU (Black Student Union)-

The Black Student Union strives to act as a positive voice for African American Students at PLNU and create a unified campus community by introducing others to the African American culture. Not only are we committed to exposing our campus to our rich heritage through our events but we are also committed to impacting each other through discussion and educating ourselves about the world around us so we can grow together in Christ.

College Democrats-

The purpose of the PLNU College Democrats is to foster healthy political discussion on campus, inform students about current events, and network with the more liberal-minded students. We focus on voter registration and information, the environment, and social issues.

College Republicans-

College Republicans is the more conservative political club on campus. We encourage voter registration and participation. In addition, our events include holding forums, and working with the Department of Political Science to best facilitate political awareness on campus.

French Club-

Bonjour! We are the PLNU French Club. We can’t all study in Paris, so Point Loma is a good alternative. We enjoy pretty much everything French, the language, crepes and other delicacies, and we even have a French faculty as our advisor. If you like and want authentic France in San Diego, this is the place for you. All ages and majors are welcome. You don’t even know how to speak French! Well, au revoir!

Going Global (Missions Club)-

Going Global is the club for those students who wish to pursue future careers in world missions, either internationally or domestically. The club was founded on the idea that not many students really know how to get actively involved in missions and especially networking for that cause. Going Global has missionary speakers come and present to its members and also assists in the networking process. So if you’re planning on Going Global in missions, here is your place!

Guerilla Film Society-

Guerilla Film Society is a film club. That might seem simple, but we not only watch movies, but also promote filming, acting, writing, set design, and pretty much everything creating great cinema involves. GFS will also act as a network for students who wish to pursue a career in film making by posting complete work online. We have a lot of fun; so come and enjoy a night at the movies, Guerilla style.

Hui O’ Hawaii-

Aloha Point Loma! Hui 'O Hawaii brings the spirit of aloha to the community at Point Loma. We create a home away from home for students from the islands, and share the Hawaiian culture with those who may not have experienced it. The highlight of our year is the annual spring luau that we put on for the school, complete with Hawaiian food, a hula show, and Hawaiian music. It is a special cultural treat and one of the most popular events Point Loma has. You don’t even need to be from Hawaii. Aloha!

International Club-

International Club is a club that brings cross-cultural awareness and knowledge to the PLNU campus. The purpose of International Club is to learn about other cultures and how they apply to us as Americans and students. Our four main pillars of activities are: Country Cultural Nights, International Prayer Nights, Foreign Film Nights, and International Luncheons. While these constitute the main focus of our club, we also go out to cultural restaurants in San Diego, orphanages in Tijuana, church services in foreign languages, and other cultural events around San Diego. Explore the world with International Club!

Klub Deutsch (German Club)-

Klub Deutsch was founded to promote the learning and usage of the German language. Its aim is to support students learning German or wanting to speak German by giving them a group of people to speak with. This in not only a way to meet more people with common interests, but also helps students currently enrolled by exposing them to the language more often. Klub Deutsch also hopes to educate students about the diversity of German culture and traditions and encouraging the students to appreciate cultural diversity and embrace their own heritage.

Lost on Stage (Improv Club)-

Lost on Stage is the local improvisation club. Just like the great show Who’s Line is it Anyway? Lost on Stage hopes to spur quick thinking and wit in its participants by playing games like “Dating Show” and “Freeze Frame.” All people are welcome to participate, regardless of how funny you think you are… (It’s a joke!). So come with us and get Lost on Stage!

Men's Club Volleyball-

Men’s Club Volleyball is exactly what it sounds like. Our club team travels around Southern California to compete against other teams. Since Point Loma doesn’t have an intervarsity men’s team, Club Volleyball is the premier place for men’s indoor volleyball. We practice weekly but encourage play anytime. The main season is in the spring, so make sure to watch out for us soon. If you are a guy and play volleyball, this is the place for you. Punch isn’t the only thing that can be spiked.

Microfinance Club-

It is our mission to spread awareness about Microfinance and the impact it is making in alleviating poverty both locally and around the globe. We plan to empower individuals so that they may actively participate in the development of this movement. We hope to spread awareness through monthly discussions and readings, bring in speakers from Microfinance Organizations to give a presentation/discussion with students, connect students to the Microfinance realm through local volunteer opportunities as well as domestic and international internships, establish a formal partnership with a current Microfinance Organization, and host one main event each semester that will raise interest and awareness about microfinance

Mu Kappa (Missionary Kids Club)-

Mu Kappa is a club mainly for Missionary Kids (MK's) and Third Culture
Kids (TCK's). The club exists to create space for the members to aid
each other in cultural adjustments, in appreciating the unique
characteristics of their pasts while building towards a future that is
different but promising, by providing each other with a network of
encouragement and understanding, and, finally, by enabling each other
to build closer relationships with God, family, and friends. Together
we talk about experiences that are common to third culture kids, tell
fun stories, and have a great time!

Phi Alpha Theta (History)-

Phi Alpha Theta is a nationally recognized History Honor Society. The society exists to promote scholarship and to create an atmosphere where intelligent ideas can be exchanged, especially through research. Conferences are held every so often to provide an opportunity for students to present their research in front of their peers and mentors. Ummm....we also do fun nerdy history things like go on road trips. We love for you to participate in our honors society!

Philosophy Club-

The Philosophy Club is a group of students interested in pursuing philosophical discussion outside of the classroom. We hold meetings once a month that we encourage members to attend and present topics for discussion in a similar fashion to the various forums on campus. We hope that this provides another venue for students and professors to interact on an intellectual level, and engenders thoughtful reflection about current philosophical trends. While we may appeal more to the philosophy majors, all are welcome, as all intellectual areas have some historical interaction with philosophy.

Phi Upsilon Omicron (Consumer Sciences)-

Phi Upsilon Omicron is the National Honors Society in Family and Consumer Sciences. The name Phi Upsilon Omicron are the initial letters of the first, second and last words of the Greek phrase meaning “light of the home.” In becoming a member of an honor society, one accepts its goals and ideals as one’s own. In striving to attain these goals, close ties of friendship are formed, a sense of responsibility is deepened, and one’s influence is broadened. As people give of themselves and their abilities, their accomplishments and satisfactions are increased. Like the light of a candle, the light produced by our lives has an effect in the world about us. Membership in Phi Upsilon Omicron offers opportunities for further professional development and accomplishment. The honor society exists to recognize and encourage academic excellence, to develop qualities of personal and professional leadership, to provide opportunities for professional service as well as service to the profession and to encourage personal and professional integrity.

Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science)-

Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society, is the only honor society for students of government in the United States. In February 2006, Point Loma Nazarene University commemorated its acceptance as the 622nd chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha.

The purpose of Pi Sigma Alpha is to stimulate productive scholarship and intelligent interest in the subject of government, public affairs and service, political philosophy, and issues in public policy.

Admittance into this Honor Society is based upon a student's grade point average, produced scholarship, and commitment to fulfilling their potential within the field of Political Science. Past members of Pi Sigma Alpha have gone on to become top elected officials and leaders in the national government, the Foreign and Civil Services, senior advisors to the Senate and Congress, founders of Non-Governmental Organizations, and the most esteemed thinkers in their field.

Pointless-

Pointless is a male a capella group that is pretty much…Pointless. We like to wow audiences with classic pop songs new and old. We have anywhere from 12-18 guys per year, with auditions every fall and toward the end of spring. Besides our smaller gigs and fun-drasiers, Pointless always looks forward to cutting a CD and a huge spring concert. One of the more famous clubs on campus, Pointless has a good time making beautiful music. Even if you can’t hum a tune, we invite you to come out and enjoy what you hear.

Psi Chi (Psychology)-

Psi Chi is a national honor society for psychology. This organization is national in scope, interests, and opportunities. Active members may hold office and vote on issues of importance to the national Psi Chi, as well as attend regional and national psychology conventions. We have a chapter here on campus to unite psychology students in events through the department. Psychology students may become a member if they have successfully completed nine units of psychology courses with a 3.0 and have experienced three semesters at Point Loma. We won’t psychoanalyze you too much!

Rugby Club-

Rugby Club (the Knights) is a male rugby team that travels around Southern California competing in matches against schools small and large. Our team has often been ranked high in the nation. Tryouts are held at the beginning of fall semester, but we gladly welcome guys to try out along the way. It has been a treat to host at least one match at Point Loma too. If you enjoy the sport of rugby, want to learn more, or are interested in our apparel line, the PLNU Rugby Club is the place to be.

SAACS (Chemistry)-

SAACS (Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society) is the chemistry club here at PLNU. This is the second year we are officially a club here at Point Loma. This year, we were able to team up with other colleges in the San Diego area and volunteer at the ChemExpo in Balboa Park for National Chemistry Week in November. We performed on-stage demonstrations and experiments for middle school students from many schools in San Diego County. We also work with an honors chemistry class from Tri-City Christian High School in Vista by supervising and instructing labs here on campus. Furthermore, we have visited an underprivileged eighth grade science class taught by a recent alumnus and taught curriculum we created according to the guidelines of the California State Eighth Grade Science Standards. This year we will have representation at the National Chemistry Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Three senior students from PLNU will be presenting posters on their research there. SAACS is a great opportunity for fellow science majors to get to know each other better and to have an impact on the community. With a wide range of activities and programs, SAACS effectively shows the breadth of chemistry in the world.

Sailing Club-

San Diego is home to some of the premier competitive sailing in the west. So why not have a sailing team at our school? As one of Point Loma’s newest clubs, we plan on representing Loma in regattas (sailing competitions) held around Southern California. We have been able to work with the San Diego Yacht Club and UCSD in practices and competition. If you are interested in competitive sailing, this is the place for you. All skills levels welcome.

SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise)-

SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) is a global non-profit organization active in more than 40 countries. Working in partnership with business and higher education, SIFE establishes student teams on university campuses, Point Loma is no exception. These teams are led by faculty advisors and they are challenged to develop community outreach projects that reach SIFE's five educational topics, market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and business ethics. SIFE teams around the country compete as they try to implement programs that create real economic opportunities for members of their communities. The effectiveness of their programs is judged at competition. Come enjoy this business club as we compete with the best (besides us).

Sk8rs for Christ-

Sk8rs for Christ is a very mobile club. Come enjoy spontaneous nights of skating downtown or a local tournament at Ocean Beach. Sk8rs for Christ provides a Christian environment where guys and girls can do what they love: skating.

SNAPL (Nursing)-

SNAPL stands for Student Nurses of Point Loma. Affiliated with the national honors society of nurses, SNAPL is Point Loma’s Nursing Society. Whether it is invited famed nurses to speak or providing networking opportunities, SNAPL works hard to make sure you are prepared for a career in nursing, while having some fun along the way. SNAPL is one of Point Loma’s largest student groups, and we like to think quantity and quality are connected. Unfortunately, SNAPL is only open to Nursing students.

Social Work Club-

Social Work is so much more than merely Child Protective Services. We support not only ridding the world of this fallacious stereotype, but believe in that statement. Social Work Club is in avid group of students (primarily, but not all Sociology/Social Work majors) who enjoy volunteering their time at nursing homes, orphanages, hospitals, and many other facilities where professional social work takes place. If you want a taste of true social work, here is the place!

Surf Team-

The Surf Team is famous at Point Loma because it is the only Club or Intervarsity Sport to have won a national championship. Thought it was a few years ago, the Surf Team carries the same competitiveness and vigor it had during the championship run. Since Point Loma is surrounded by great surf, the Surf Team actively facilitates growth and comradery with surf competitions around Southern California. Everyone can find a place on the three teams, either in short or long board. So grab your board and let’s surf!

Table Tennis Club-

The Point Loma Table Tennis Club (PLTTC) is a relatively new club that has enjoyed a prosperous beginning at Point Loma. With weekly open plays in the Rec Room, the PLTTC aims to both increase the visibility and knowledge about table tennis (ping pong, whiff whaff, flim flam, etc) to the whole PLNU community. Our activities include tournaments with great prizes for champions and those who do poorly alike. We take occasional trips to the San Diego Table Tennis facilities at Balboa Park and encourage participation in any way possible.

Tri Beta (Biology)-

Tri Beta (BBB) is the PLNU Honors Society in Biology. We are an active club who has a lot of fun with the science of biology. While we are made up of mostly students who major in biology or chemistry, membership is open to everyone. Our activities have included taking a group of 50 to the Bodies Exhibit and hosting speakers. We try to help students prepare for graduate school in the sciences and networking for their future careers. Come and enjoy a night with Tri Beta!

Triathlon/Marathon Club-

The Triathlon/Marathon Club (TMC) may be new, but it is certainly not least. Many students love to participate in triathlons and marathons around San Diego, and up until now, they have had no Point Loma help on training regiments, diet tips, and help with costs. The TMC has filled that void and has begun to help students grow in this way. All are welcome, regardless of your physical condition.

Women’s Club Volleyball-

Club Volleyball gives women the opportunity to play competitive volleyball after high school. It is a great opportunity to get involved at the school and creates new relationships. It was created to reach out to those girls not involved with intercollegiate volleyball to continue playing the sport that they love and bonding with girls who have similar interests. We play a broad range of Universities in San Diego holding weekly practices and games during the second semester. It allows girls to balance school and sports very easily while still allowing a competitive atmosphere.
