which a rebel group called the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) abducted children
from their homes in the middle of the night and forced them to become child
soldiers. These innocent children are brainwashed and coerced to
violently murder their friends and family. The Invisible Children Club at
Point Loma takes direction from the organization Invisible Children (invisiblechildren.com). Some of the
events the Invisible Children Club: Schools for Schools has hosted include:
documentary screenings, benefit shows, parties in the Greek, weekly meetings,
dorm change competitions, and art shows. Also, this year we will be
introducing a program called Beads for Hope in which we will sell jewelry made
by AIDS widdows in Rwanda (an area also affected by the LRA) and send that
money right back to them so that they may care for the dozens of Rwandan
children that rely on them. In addition, we are partnering with a church
in the Congo (another country affected by the LRA). We will take
donations to be used for livestock that will be given to struggling families in
this region. The Invisible Children Club is an opportunity for students
to gain global awareness and fight for human rights!
