In the midst of such stunning success, Mark McClain will share with us his insights on active Christian faith in today’s marketplace, pursuing demanding careers without sacrificing healthy relationships with your kids, and other aspects of priorities, relationships and stewardship in today’s demanding marketplace. More Information on Mark McClain
Mark McClain is a 1984 graduate of Point Loma, with a BA in Economics. He also received an MBA from UCLA in 1992. After about a decade working in sales and marketing for IBM and Hewlett Packard, he embarked on an entrepreneurial journey that has resulted in notable market success. In 1995, he moved to Austin, TX to join Tivoli Systems, a systems/network management company which had recently gone through an IPO. Within a year, the company was acquired by IBM, and experienced explosive growth. Over the next four years, Mark rose to the position of VP of Marketing, supervising a team of over 200 people all over the world. In 2000, he co-founded Waveset Technologies, raising over $30M in venture capital, and resulting in the sale of the company for $150M to Sun Microsystems in 2003. After serving as the VP of Software Marketing for Sun for a year, he left to co-found SailPoint Technologies in 2005, where he has served as CEO for almost 9 years. The company has grown to be a world leader in enterprise identity management software, competing with tech giants like IBM, Oracle, Dell and CA in a $4B market. SailPoint now has almost 400 employees all over the world and is approaching $100M in annual revenue. SailPoint recently sold a majority ownership position to the noted private equity firm, Thoma Bravo, for hundreds of millions of dollars.
Mark has been (very) happily married to Marjorie (Patterson) McClain for over 28 years. They are the proud parents of Andy, Rachel (Dow) and Grace, the proud parents-in-law of Erika (Embertson) McClain and John Dow, and the extremely proud grandparents of Melanie Grace McClain. Mark has served on the Elder Board of Grace Covenant Church for over a decade, and serves on a number of other non-profit and for-profit company boards.
More Information on the Presentation
What does an active faith in Christ look like in today’s marketplace? Is it possible to pursue business success while maintaining a healthy marriage? How do you pursue a demanding career path without sacrificing healthy relationships with your kids? Like many Christians in the business community, Mark has wrestled with these questions since graduating from Point Loma and pursuing a career as an entrepreneur in the rapidly-evolving field of high tech. He has seen many friends and colleagues struggle as the pressures and temptations of financial success often contradict the high calling of Jesus to be “in the world, but not of it”. While this talk will not reduce this complex issue to a set of simple answers, Mark will share some of the core truths that have helped him navigate his journey of faith, family, friends and work.
