What inspired you to start Tailored Fitness?

I started Tailored Fitness because I am passionate about helping women learn to live a healthy life so they can be role models for their kids.   I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family where I was taught the value of exercise and my active upbringing played a huge role in shaping who I am today.  Yes, I am one of those strange people who actually enjoys working out.  I grew up having positive associations with exercise because it was something fun our family did together.  As I have grown older, I have begun to truly see the value of my upbringing and I am so grateful for the example my parents set for me. 

I am well aware of the fact that the majority of women don’t like working out and struggle with fitting exercise into their schedule, especially moms who are always tired and pulled in so many directions. That’s why I decided to create Tailored Fitness!  It’s the best of both worlds:  It’s a customizable workout program that you can do at home (which makes it super convenient), but we also provide the support of trainers and a community of women so you aren’t in it alone.

The company was born out of a real need in my life.  As went through the journey of being pregnant, having my first child, andfinding my way back to my post-baby best, I have molded Tailored Fitness to be something that helps me be able to exercise in the midst of my busy life as a mom and helps me set an example of health for my daughter. Now that she is 1 ½, she enjoys “joining me” for my workouts and I know she is learning a valuable lesson about the importance of taking care of the bodies God gave us. I love knowing that I am helping otherwomen, no matter what stage of life they are in, to achieve their personal health goals and inspire those around them.

Were there any particular experiences while you were at PLNU that you see shaping your career path today?  

At PLNU I studied elementary education, so at first glance, you may think I am no longer working in the same field.  But I am actually still using many of the teaching techniques that I learned in my classes.  I may not be in a classroom with children, but I am still teaching, just adults in the area of fitness.  My education professors taught me that you are the most effective teacher when you are passionate about what you are teaching.  I have definitely found my passion and am grateful for the chance to share it with others. 

PLNU also taught me that even if your vocation is not in the ministry, you can still make an impact in whatever field you work in.  I have embraced this and have chosen to make Tailored Fitness a different kind of fitness company. One that focuses on health instead of a number on the scale, one that celebrates you wherever you are on your journey, and one that recognizes that beauty is not a size. I want to be a part of the revolution that strives to re-define beauty for ourselves and for the next generation. I want to help each of our clients learn that they are beautiful, just as they are today, just as God created them. 

Can you give a brief overview of the program and its options?

015-12b.jpgSure, as I mentioned above, Tailored Fitness is an online, video-based workout program that you can do wherever you have internet access. When you join Tailored Fitness you have 3 ways to workout:

1) Trainer designed workouts – We have dozens of trainer designed workouts created to help you make the most of your time. You can choose based on exercise focus, length, or intensity level.

2) Build your own workout – For complete customization, you can choose each section of your workout by dragging and dropping the clips you want. Our program streams them together and it plays like a custom DVD. We have all types of workout formats like kickboxing, yoga, pilates, barre, tabata, athletic, and even workouts you can do with your baby. So everyone can find something they like and you’ll never be bored.

3) Group classes – We have ongoing classes where you can join other women working towards the same goal. The trainer assigns workouts and nutrition challenges and can see when you complete them. You work to earn points for fun prizes and have the support of a group working alongside you. 

We also have nutrition guidance to compliment your workouts.  Our trainers check in with you on a monthly basis to hold you accountable, encourage you in your progress, and answer any questions. Tailored Fitness can be your complete fitness solution or works great as a supplement to a gym membership (especially since we keep the monthly cost low).
  

My biggest piece of advice is to recognize that it’s a lifestyle choice. Begin with small changes, which over time will make a big difference.  Equally important is to realize that you need to find support and accountability, whether it’s through a program like Tailored Fitness, or a friend or family member. Sticking with new habits like exercise and eating well is hard and having someone to encourage you and hold you accountable is key. I encourage anyone woman who is
