Military Aid and Programs

PLNU is approved to administer education benefits awarded by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD). See below for brief overviews of the possible benefits.

VA Benefits 

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill® — Chapter 33*
    • For military personnel who serve at least 90 days of qualifying active duty service in the armed forces after Sept. 11, 2001, as well as dependents using transferred GI Bill.
      • 50%-100% entitlement, depending on the length of service;
    • Includes: 
      • Tuition & Fees paid directly to PLNU (maximum annual cap of $29,920.95 for the 25/26 academic year);
      • Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) paid directly to the student (based on school location, modality, and full-time vs. part-time enrollment);
      • Book stipend paid directly to the student (up to $1,000 per AY);
    • *Includes the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship and the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship 
  • Montgomery GI Bill® — Chapter 30
    • For military personnel serving prior to Sept. 11, 2001
    • Includes:
      • Monthly stipend paid directly to the student, depending on the student’s periods of qualifying service;
        • Current Rates for Ch 30
  • Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) — Chapter 31
    • For veterans with at least a 10% service-connected disability rating.
    • Includes: 
      • Full Tuition & Fees paid directly to PLNU;
      • Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) or Subsistence Allowance is paid directly to the student.
      • Books and supplies are covered in full.;
      • Individualized career counseling and support;
  • The Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) — Chapter 35
    • For dependents of a veteran who received a rating of “totally and permanently disabled” from the VA.
    • Includes:
      • Monthly stipend paid directly to student, depending on full-time versus part-time enrollment and program type;
    • VA Work Study 
      • VA education beneficiaries enrolled at least ¾ time may be eligible for work study.;
      • Includes:
        • An hourly wage based on either the federal minimum wage or the CA state minimum wage, whichever is greater;
        • Maximum number of hours per semester, determined by the VA;
        • Work study duties related to the VA and/or working with veterans directly.

DoD Benefits 

  • Tuition Assistance (TA) program for Active Duty personnel
    • Includes: 
      • $250 per credit on approved degree programs
      • Maximum of $4,500 or 18 units per fiscal year (Oct. 1 through Sept. 30)

  • Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC)
    • PLNU is a cross-town affiliated school, meaning students may enroll at PLNU and participate in ROTC at the branch campus of their choice.;
    • Students may earn an ROTC scholarship, but may participate in ROTC without it.;

Active Duty Tuition Discount

PLNU offers a flat rate of $250 per unit for all active-duty service members who enroll in an Accelerated Undergraduate (AUG) program.
