While students are generally responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from campus, the Educational Access Center (EAC) can assist with on-campus transportation needs when those needs are part of a student’s formal Accommodation Plan.
On-Campus Transportation Support
- Accessible Shuttles: PLNU operates daily accessible shuttle services with predetermined stops across campus. These shuttles are available to all students and offer consistent, accessible transportation.
- EAC Cart Service: For students with mobility-related accommodations, EAC offers cart transportation across campus. This service must be scheduled in advance on a weekly basis through the EAC.
- Parking Accommodations: Upperclassmen who have vehicles on campus and require accessible parking due to mobility limitations should contact the EAC to discuss potential parking accommodations.
Off-Campus Transportation Options
- Shuttle Service: Like many universities in San Diego, PLNU provides a free shuttle service for students. Departing from Smee Hall, the shuttle operates every day except Mondays and Tuesdays and makes convenient stops at popular destinations including Target, Old Town (with access to the train station), Liberty Station, and Fashion Valley Mall. Whether you need to stock up on groceries, enjoy a night out, or catch a weekend movie, the shuttle offers an easy way to explore San Diego. For many students, riding the shuttle has become a classic part of the PLNU experience.
- Zipcar Rentals: Zipcars are available on campus and can be rented for short-term use, including transportation to off-campus medical appointments or errands.
- Ride Services: Students are encouraged to explore local ride-share services, public transportation, or taxi options for travel to off-campus appointments or destinations.
Freshman Vehicle Policy and Exemptions
First-year students are generally not permitted to have vehicles on campus; however, students registered with the EAC may qualify for a Freshman Vehicle Exemption under the following conditions:
- The student has a documented disability and is receiving ongoing care from a local provider with weekly in-person appointments.
- Exemptions are not granted for occasional, out-of-town, or infrequent medical or psychological appointments.
Students are expected to arrange their own off-campus transportation (via ride services, bus, train, etc.) and are encouraged to establish care with local providers whenever possible.
