Students benefit from a broad curriculum that meets national standards."

Preparation for Teaching

Our curriculum meets national standards and is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC), making this program an excellent pathway if you want to teach mathematics at the secondary level.

Career-Ready Credentials

The program includes VEE (Validation by Educational Experience) course approval by the Society of Actuaries, helping shorten the path to professional certification in actuarial science.

Personalized Mentorship

Small class sizes and dedicated faculty advisors provide individualized guidance in academic planning, career exploration, and graduate school preparation.

What You'll Study

You’ll explore both pure and applied mathematics while developing three core strengths:

  • Analytical abilities
  • Mathematical modeling
  • Computational skills

Because the B.A. offers flexibility, many students choose to double major in complementary fields such as computer science, chemistry, or business. It also provides strong preparation for pre-med or other professional programs.

Graduates of PLNU’s Mathematics B.A. pursue careers in:

  • Secondary Teaching
  • Business, Finance & Technology
  • Data & Statistical Analysis
  • Graduate Study in Mathematics and Related Fields

The Mathematics B.A. is ideal if you want to combine mathematical training with another area of study, preparing you for a versatile, career-ready future.

Invaluable Insights
"The jump between high school level academics and college can be steep. The first time I struggled in math was in a calculus class at PLNU, but that struggle prepared me for my teaching career. Every brain processes information differently, and my experience gave me an invaluable insight into the challenges my own students face. It helped me gain empathy for students when they can’t grasp the math I was teaching them."
Yvette Henry Mathematics B.A.
Guided Growth
"Along with what I learned through my coursework, being able to closely communicate with my professors proved to be critical in shaping my career path. I know I wouldn’t be where I am at today without their help and guidance"
Griffin Aseltine Mathematics B.S.
Complex Problem Solver
"Having a background in physics and math has helped in my career in engineering. My degree at PLNU taught me how to solve complex problems, and I have used that skill set to solve technical and problems for my business."
Jerry Goodwin Physics and Mathematics B.S.
Opportunity to Contribute
"My career path has been unusual and atypical. I like variety and breadth; I like learning new things … The software, the instruments, the spacecraft, the ground data systems – I like seeing across all that. I am what’s called a ‘Connector.’ I see what’s happening from A to B to C and how they impact each other… That’s what I like, the opportunity to contribute at various levels and to do new and different things."
