Preview Day FAQs

Why attend a Preview Day?

Although we welcome students to campus year round, we’ve designed preview events to include a variety of activities to give students an in-depth view of PLNU. We want to give prospective students the chance to experience what life could be like as a future PLNU student. This includes, but is not limited to: a chapel visit, sitting in on a class, a meal in our dining hall, and interacting with our awesome faculty.

We also offer a financial aid session, a student panel, the opportunity to stay overnight in the residence halls and experience a PLNU evening activity (overnight portion is for fall preview days only).

Lastly, this gives you the opportunity to check out PLNU, alongside students who are also trying to make these important college decisions.

What is the difference between the fall and spring preview events?

The fall Preview Days include an overnight visit in our residence halls. This is a great chance for you to see what residential life is all about. The fall Preview Days also include an opportunity for seniors to complete their admissions interviews.

Aside from the differences above, each of our Preview Days follows a similar format — including chapel, class visits, interaction with faculty and current students, and more.

Why are these events on school days?

Great question! We know it’s a big deal for you to miss school, but we think this event will prove worthwhile! We really want you to be able to experience a weekday at PLNU, so you can visit a class, attend chapel, and experience campus events that only happen during the week. These are the experiences that help you choose which college is the best fit for you!

Most high schools will allow for you to miss a few days of school for college visits, so if you need an official letter from our office, just let us know!

What about transportation?

If you are a student traveling on your own, and arriving at the San Diego airport or a San Diego train station during our office hours (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), we’re happy to pick you up. Drop-offs can also be arranged during these times. Please keep in mind that we are unable to do any drop-offs or pick-ups on weekends or outside of office hours.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive and reliable shuttle service, we recommend Cloud9. You can also catch a cab to our campus, as we’re located a mere 12 minutes from the San Diego airport.

What if I can’t make it for the whole event?

If you need to take off an hour early, it’s not the end of the world. However, if you can only make it to half of the event, we’d encourage you to choose another Preview Day, or schedule an individual daily visit, to make the most of your time on campus.

Will you run out of space?

Yes! Because our goal is to make sure everyone has a good experience, registration will close once the event reaches capacity. Typically this doesn’t happen until the week before the event, but to ensure your spot, make sure to sign up early! No matter what, we want you to visit, which is why we offer quite a few visit opportunities.

Does this cost money?

Yes. Costs will vary depending on the event, but they’ll be listed at the time of registration (~$15-35 per person). The registration cost will cover your meals during your time on campus. We do our best to keep costs as low as possible!

Should my parents attend?

Our preview events are designed so that students feel comfortable attending on their own, but parents are more than welcome! For parents who do choose to attend, they’ll have the same schedule as their students, aside from a few specific times (which are noted in each respective event schedule).

Where will I sleep? (overnights for fall Preview Days only)

Prospective students are paired up with host students in our residence halls, and stay in their rooms for the evening. While we wish that we had extra beds for everyone, most students will need to sleep on the floor. With that said, please plan to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Parents, you’ll need to find accommodations off campus, and we highly recommend Bartell Hotels (a group of hotels that provide a discount to PLNU visitors).

If you will be attending a Preview Day with a friend of the same gender and want to stay in the same room, please let us know during registration, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Can I complete my admissions interview?

During the fall preview events, we include an opportunity for high school seniors to complete their admissions interviews (an optional part of the application process). These are scheduled at the end of each fall event, so high school juniors (and seniors who have already completed an interview, or don’t want to interview) can take off and hit the beach! The interviews are low-key and only take about 20 to 30 minutes.

Group Visits

Group Visits

We offer group visits to our campus for middle and high school, college, youth, and community groups. It's our goal to educate our group visitors on how to best prepare themselves as university candidates, both at PLNU and elsewhere.

Please read our Group Visit Learning Outcomes and Objectives and Group Visit Guidelines below for more information about group visits.

Group Visit Learning Outcomes and Objectives

Group visitors to the university will:

  • Understand the value of a Christian liberal arts model of higher education
  • Develop a general sense of PLNU campus life through interaction with student tour guides, (optional) lunch in the cafeteria, and interaction with the admissions staff
  • Learn specifically about the PLNU application process
  • Gain an understanding of what criteria universities use to evaluate student desirability and leave with a clear picture of how to best prepare themselves as competitive university candidates

All campus visit interaction with group visitors will:

  • Facilitate positive relationships with secondary educational institutions throughout California and beyond
  • Highlight the value of a Christian liberal arts model of higher education
  • Emphasize the importance of higher education in general

Group Visit Guidelines

We are excited to welcome your group to our campus and wish to provide you with a positive and educational group visit experience. We strive to educate our group visitors on how to best prepare themselves as competitive university candidates, both at PLNU and elsewhere, as outlined in our Group Visit Learning Outcomes and Objectives.

Scheduling Your Visit

  • To schedule a group tour, click on the Register button at the bottom of this page to see our available dates and times. Select the date and time you would like to visit, then fill out the information form to confirm your registration.
  • We require at least four weeks’ notice when scheduling group visits to PLNU. Last-minute requests cannot be accommodated.
  • Tours are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Group tours are only scheduled on weekdays at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., or 2 p.m. We cannot offer weekend, evening, or self-guided tours.
  • We accept group visit requests from middle and high school, college, and youth and community groups.
  • We are not able to accommodate groups larger than 100 students.
  • We offer groups a discounted rate of $6.25 per person for lunch in our cafeteria, which is buffet-style. Lunch is only served between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. If you are planning to purchase lunch passes for your group, you must notify admissions in advance and purchase them through our office. (Payment will be processed in the admissions office upon arrival.) We accept cash, check, or credit — but we request one form of payment. If students bring cash, it must be collected and counted prior to arrival. We cannot provide refunds to groups if the number of students changes unexpectedly.
  • A final head count of students must be submitted no less than one week prior to your visit. We will use this number to reserve lunch passes. If your numbers change in any way, please keep us posted.
  • Each group must have at least one adult chaperone for every 15 students. Chaperones must be provided by your school or organization. Chaperones are responsible for the care and discipline of students while on campus. We ask that groups be respectful of our students, our student tour guides, and all other members of the PLNU community. Chaperones must stay with the group at all times during their visit to campus.

  • Due to the size of our campus, there is absolutely no bus parking on campus. All buses must drop off students at the designated drop-off zones and then find parking off campus.
  • Groups must arrive on campus at the scheduled time. Due to liability issues, groups that arrive early cannot be accommodated until the scheduled time of the tour.
  • If a group is running late, the group contact person must contact our campus visit team at (619) 849-2273.
  • If we do not receive notice and your group is more than 20 minutes late, we will cancel your tour.

For any questions about the group visit experience, please contact campus visit coordinator Kelly Miller.
