Accommodations

The scope of accommodations provided by PLNU is based on official medical documentation and availability of campus resources. In general, an accommodation is a change in the academic/non-academic environment to provide equal opportunity for accessibility. The nature of the accommodation is considered on an individual basis and recommendations from the submitted documentation are taken into consideration.  Accommodations are to be reasonable, not impose an undue hardship on the operation of the program, and not fundamentally alter the academic and technical programming standards. Accommodations, such as peer note-takers, are not in lieu of classroom attendance and participation. Accommodation plans are not retroactive so students must submit documentation and meet with our staff prior to granting any type of accommodation at PLNU.

Dietary Accommodations

Our campus dining facilities are equipped and dedicated to providing safe, healthy, and delicious options for students who have food sensitivities/intolerances/allergies, Celiac disease, and other dietary needs. Dining managers and chefs are certified through the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness Great Kitchens© program to accommodate a gluten-free diet.

To get started:

  1. Submit current medical documentation (Provider Form) related to your dietary needs.
  2. Schedule an appointment with the Registered Dietitian by emailing  the EAC  at eac@pointloma.edu.
  3. You are encouraged to learn more about managing your food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances by visiting the Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) website.

Housing Accommodations

  1. All housing accommodations requests, whether current students or incoming, are considered on a case-by-case basis and are rank ordered based on student medical needs and availability.
  2. Housing on campus is limited and we cannot, unfortunately, accommodate preferences. Rather, rooms are assigned based on medically-documented need for students with housing accommodations.
  3. For continuing student requests for disability-related housing, accommodations must be medically documented (Provider Form) and submitted to the EAC for review by February 15th for Fall semester placement and by October 23rd for Spring semester.
  4. Newly admitted students must make housing accommodation requests in writing  prior to May 15th.
  5. The EAC follows the guidelines outlined in Residential Life at PLNU. Students must apply to housing to be considered for housing accommodations.

Transportation Accommodations

Students are expected to find their own transportation to and from campus; however, the EAC can assist in identifying transportation while on campus for classes and/or activities if accommodations are included in the formal Accommodation Plan.

Transportation

  • On-campus accessible shuttles run on a daily basis at predetermined stops.
  • EAC cart service is available through pre-scheduling weekly with the EAC.
  • Zip cars are available to rent for off campus appointments.
  • Freshmen are not allowed vehicle on campus because of limited parking spaces. EAC can issue a Freshman Vehicle Exemption to EAC registered students with (at least) weekly local provider appointments. Vehicle Exemption requests will be denied as an accommodation for less frequent appointments or for out-of-town. Students are expected to arrange their own transportation for out-of-town needs and encouraged to arrange access to local medical providers. 
  • Upperclassmen are allowed vehicles on campus. Please contact the EAC if you require special parking because of mobility issues.
