Accommodation Grievance & Appeal Policy – Summary

Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) is committed to ensuring students with disabilities have equal access to all programs, services, and activities in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other laws.

Your Rights:

  • Participate in all PLNU programs and activities without discrimination.
  • Request reasonable accommodations for equal access.
  • File a grievance if you believe you have experienced discrimination, harassment, or denied accommodations.

Process Overview:

  • Informal Resolution: Students are encouraged to first discuss concerns with the EAC for a prompt resolution.
  • Formal Grievance: If concerns remain, students may submit a written complaint to the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator. Complaints must include details of the issue, individuals involved, and requested resolution.
  • Investigation: A fair and timely review will be conducted, and a decision provided.
  • Appeal: Either party may appeal a decision if there was a procedural error or new evidence arises.
  • External Option: Students may also contact the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights at any time.

Confidentiality & Protection:

  • All medical and disability-related information is kept confidential.
  • Retaliation for filing a grievance or participating in an investigation is strictly prohibited.
