Decades before Point Loma became home to the university we know today, both the future campus and Pasadena College were experiencing chapters of change. The Point Loma property passed through new ownership, while miles away, Pasadena College continued strengthening its academic foundation and expanding opportunities for students.
New degree programs in mathematics, philosophy, physics, psychology, biology, and sociology reflected a growing academic community, while new accreditations further established the college's educational foundation. The era also brought the beginning of a tradition that remains an important part of PLNU today: during the 1944–45 academic year, Pasadena College played its first season of intercollegiate basketball.
Though the Point Loma campus was not yet part of the university's story, pieces of its future identity were already emerging through academic growth, new traditions, and a community continuing to prepare students for lives of purpose and service.
