We encourage victims of sexual violence, rape, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and discrimination (collectively sexual violence) to seek help so you can get the support you need.
Right now you may be feeling confused or uncertain about what has happened to you. It is important for you to know that you are not alone, what happened was not your fault, and we believe you. The "What's Next" brochure is designed to help you understand what sexual misconduct is, what you may be feeling as a result of it, the next steps available to you after a sexual misconduct, and understanding the role of Title IX at PLNU.
Emergencies
Call 9-1-1 if you are in the midst of any kind of emergency, immediate harm or threat of harm. You can also call San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2000. If you are on campus, you can also call PLNU Public Safety at (619) 849-2525.
Making a Report to Police and Filing a Criminal Complaint
If you have experienced sexual violence, you are encouraged to seek immediate assistance from police. The San Diego Police Department can be reached at (619) 531-2000.
If you are planning to file a criminal complaint or might do so later, a SART exam (also known as a rape kit) can secure valuable evidence that can be used. It is important to do this as soon as possible, preferably within 72 hours. If possible, do not drink, bathe, douche, brush your teeth, change clothing, or comb your hair. It's only natural to want to do these things, but you may be destroying evidence you will need if you decide to prosecute at a later date. Put all clothing, bedding, and other evidence in a paper (not plastic) bag. A SART exam is done by medical staff at the following hospitals:

These hospitals will also provide medical care including testing for pregnancy, STDs, and HIV as well as check for internal and external injuries
Follow Up Medical Care
If you have experienced sexual violence, you are encouraged to seek follow up medical care after a SART exam or if you choose not to do a SART exam. This can be done at your primary care provider or at the PLNU Wellness Center. This includes testing for pregnancy as well as testing and treating STDs or treating injuries.

University Support
The University has designated a Title IX Coordinator to provide you with assistance and support. The Title IX Coordinator may be able to assist you with academic support, housing accommodations, a no contact order, Public Safety escorts, or other similar supportive measures. The Title IX Coordinator is also available to explain and discuss your right to file a criminal complaint, the University’s relevant complaint process, and your right to receive assistance with that process, including the investigation process; how confidentiality is handled; available resources, both on and off campus; and other related matters.
