Melanie Murillo

Admissions Counselor

Where are you from?

I grew up in San Diego and am a true Southern California girl who loves the beach and the endless sunshine.

What did you study in college?

I studied business management at Azusa Pacific University, which is ironic because my LEAST favorite subject is math.

What's your best piece of advice for a first-time San Diego visitor?

There is so much to do and see in San Diego, you won't be bored in our city! I would advise first-time visitors to go kayaking at La Jolla Shores, take a walk in Balboa Park, eat some drive-through Mexican food, visit Sea World (my favorite), and you of course have to end your day with watching the sunset on the beach.

Why do you work at PLNU?

I had a private Christian college education; it was a great experience I would advise anyone to pursue. The community on campus is so unique and the intentional Christian atmosphere is why I work at Point Loma. I also love the role we as counselors get to play with students and parents as they start this new journey in their life.

What advice would you give someone who is trying to pick a major?

I went into my freshman year of college as an undeclared major and struggled with the age-old question, "What do you want to do for the rest of your life?". I chose business management because I've always been fascinated with details, planning, and the operations management of a business. I would advise students to stick with a subject area they are passionate about and don't be afraid to consult with others. Your teachers, mentors, and family are the people who know you best and can speak to your personal and professional strengths.
