Matt Boyne, Ed.D.

Associate Professor of Management

Professor Matt Boyne came to PLNU in 2009 as an adjunct faculty member specializing in operations and project management. He served as a Naval Aviator, flight and weapons training instructor, maintenance officer and commanding officer while flying the F/A-18 Hornet from carriers deployed around the globe. He has also flown commercially for United Airlines on Boeing aircraft for 20-years.  While at United Airlines he taught risk management and team dynamics as part of the airlines Threat Error Management/Crew Resource Management curriculum.  Academically, Boyne's doctoral research at Pepperdine focused on the intersection of human performance and technology in order to optimize human systems integration using design thinking, leading to the successful completion of his Ed.D. His current teaching research focuses on Peer Instruction and Active Learning. His field research is focused on the intersection of Design Thinking and Resilience Engineering for High Reliability Organizations. In addition to teaching for PLNU at the undergraduate and graduate levels, Boyne also serves on the FSB's M.B.A. Committee.
