PLNU continues to train future providers to meet California’s urgent need for mental health professionals with the launch of its Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling (MACC) Online Program. The program is now officially recognized by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for meeting the educational requirements for dual licensure as both a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
California is facing a mental health treatment demand spike, resulting in an urgent need for licensed professionals who are equipped to respond with compassion, clinical excellence, and a deep sense of purpose. California BBS approval of the MACC Online program is a major milestone, increasing accessibility and opportunity for students unable to attend in person.
This fall, under the leadership of Dr. Kelly Duggan Shearer and the College of Health Sciences, PLNU launched the MACC Online program to expand access to high-quality clinical training for students across the state and beyond. Built with purpose, the MACC Online program is committed to developing compassionate counselors who lead with empathy and serve with humility.
The program features synchronous and asynchronous classes and a live practicum placement to foster meaningful connections that transcend distance. Now, more individuals can pursue their calling to become licensed mental health professionals through a flexible, accredited, online format that aligns with PLNU’s mission of whole-person care.
We are honored to prepare the next generation of counselors to serve with skill, empathy, and purpose, right when they’re needed most.
