
Office of the Provost
The Provost at Point Loma Nazarene University serves as the Chief Academic Officer and is a key member of the President's Cabinet, responsible for leading and overseeing all academic programs, including faculty development, curriculum, and academic policy. The Provost also plays a vital role in aligning academic initiatives with the university's Christian mission and ensuring the quality of the educational experience for students.
G. James Daichendt was selected as Provost and Chief Academic Officer in 2024 after serving briefly as Interim Provost and prior to that as Vice-Provost (2019-2024), Dean of the Colleges (2017-2024), and Dean of Arts and Humanities (2015-2017) at Point Loma Nazarene University.

Dr. Daichendt is the founding editor of the academic journal, Visual Inquiry: Learning and Teaching Art and is the author of several books including: Tribal and Cultural Legacy of Streetwear (2024); Robbie Conal: Streetwise: 35 Years of Politically Charged Guerrilla Art (2020); The Urban Canvas: Street Art Around the World (2017); Kenny Scharf: In Absence of Myth (2016); Shepard Fairey Inc: Artist/Professional/Vandal (2014); Stay Up! Los Angeles Street Art (2012); Artist Scholar: Reflections on Writing and Research (2011); and Artist-Teacher: A Philosophy for Creating and Teaching (2010). He co-curated Street Legacy: SoCal Style Masters at the California Center for Arts Museum (2022) and Sidewalk Activism at the Oceanside Museum of Art (2020).
Jim is the recipient of a 2021 Lifetime Achievement award from the Office of the President of the United States for his service to the arts community.
He holds a doctorate from Columbia University and master's degrees from Harvard and Boston universities.
