Holly M. Irwin, Ph.D.
Vice Provost, Academic Administration
Dr. Holly Irwin is the vice provost for academic administration (VPAA). She has been a member of the PLNU community since 1998. She began as a faculty member in the Department of Psychology, serving 12 years with the last five years as department chair. Her line of inquiry during this time entailed the impact of learning styles among college students as well as the effect of study abroad experiences on college students.
Karen A. Lee, Ph.D.
Vice Provost, Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness
Vice Provost Karen A. Lee serves as the university's accreditation liaison officer (ALO). She joined the university administration of PLNU in 2016. Her academic scholarship focuses on 20th century British and American literature, postcolonial theory, and translation studies — specialties wherein she has published a number of refereed articles plus an academic monograph, Anglophone Literatures of the Asian Diaspora: Literary Transnationalism and Translingual Migrations.
David M. Phillips, D.Min.
Vice Provost, Graduate and Professional Services
Dean, College of Extended Learning
Vice Provost David M. Phillips is the dean of the College of Extended Learning. His academic work includes biblical studies, theology, Christian ministry, adult learning, instructional design, online learning, and management. He has been a member of the PLNU faculty since 2013, with previous service at Trevecca Nazarene University (Nashville) and Nazarene Bible College (Colorado Springs).
As vice provost, Phillips oversees several programs and the services area for Graduate & Professional Services. This includes the adult degree completion programs and the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership.
G. James Daichendt, Ed.D
Dean, College of Arts and Humanities
G. James Daichendt, Ed.D. is an art critic and journalist for KECT's Artbound, the nation's largest public television station. Daichendt holds a doctorate from Columbia University and graduate degrees from Harvard and Boston universities.
Daniel Bothe, MBA
Dean, Fermanian School of Business
Daniel Bothe joined the Fermanian School of Business (FSB) as a full-time associate professor of finance in 2009. He came to PLNU with approximately 20 years of management consulting, accounting, and senior-level financial management experience.
Deborah Erickson, Ed.D.
Dean, School of Education
Dr. Deborah Erickson has served as dean of the School of Education at PLNU since 2013. Prior to her current appointment, she was a full professor and the assistant dean of the Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University, where she also directed the educational leadership program for six years.
Barbara Taylor, Ph.D., RN
Dean, School of Nursing
Dr. Barbara Taylor's passion is nursing and nursing education. She believes it is essential for nursing students to understand the importance of the role that the nurse plays in healthcare today.
Mark A. Maddix, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Theology & Christian Ministry
Dr. Mark Maddix, dean of the School of Theology & Christian Ministry, served in full-time pastoral ministry before becoming a professor. He is a frequent contributor to the Wesleyan Theological Journal and Christian Education Journal.
