Your student’s safety is the priority of our team. Through safety, hospitality, transparency, and care the Department of Public safety works to ensure students are cared for — whether they are facing an emergency or simply navigating everyday campus life. DPS is available for support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Residence Hall Safety
All PLNU dorms have residential life staff (Resident Directors and Resident Assistants), readily available for any student’s non-emergency needs. Residential Life staff are available to support students with needs such as room lockouts, roommate conflicts, and other non-emergency residence hall concerns. For after-hours assistance, contact the Department of Public Safety.

How safe is PLNU and the Point Loma community?
PLNU is supported by the Department of Public Safety (DPS), which helps ensure a safe campus environment. For vehicle traffic, the Point Loma main campus has one entrance and one exit, allowing DPS to monitor campus access. You can find live updates through the local crime map or explore the annual report log.
How do we get notifications and updates regarding emergency situations happening on campus?
You can sign up for Rave Alert, which is a live emergency report system sending SMS messages and emails to students and employees.
Are freshmen allowed to have a car on campus?
No, freshmen are not allowed to have cars. However, PLNU provides multiple transportation options around San Diego. On- and off- campus shuttle services can take students around campus or to locations around San Diego such as Liberty Station, Sports Arena, Old Town Trolley Station, or Fashion Valley Mall. ZipCar is also an option for students, to virtually rent a car right from PLNU’s campus. For more information, read the University Vehicle Code for all policies and exceptions.
How does my student register their car/bike?
Your student can register their vehicle or bicycle online.
Can students leave their cars on campus over breaks?
Yes, students may store their vehicles on campus during breaks. Students must order a storage permit and display it after approval by the Department of Public Safety. For certain breaks, DPS will notify students if vehicles must be parked in a designated lot.
