Through Care-Giving 

  • Loma Ocean View Escapes (L.O.V.E.)

    • Furnished two-bedroom apartments are available to Nazarene pastors and their families in May, June and July.  Counseling services are available in selected weeks.  There is no charge for use of the apartments or counseling. Applications for the coming summer may be submitted beginning March 15.

  • PLNU computers
    • Refurbished PC and Mac computers are made available to pastors and churches for ministry-related purposes. Once approved, computers are available to be picked up in the CPL office. There is no charge.

Through Peer Learning and Coaching

  • Personal Developmental Coaching
    • Pastors are invited to sign-up to meet monthly with a trained pastoral coach to develop their self-awareness and resourcefulness as they navigate the challenges of ministry.
  • Group Developmental Coaching
    • Pastors are invited to join a cohort of other pastors for development and leadership resourcing.  Each cohort is led by a trained pastoral coach
  • Team Developmental Coaching
    • Pastors are invited to engage a series of team coaching sessions with their staff and/or church boards with a trained professional coach.
  • Ministerial Coaching Initiative (Lilly Grant Funded program)
    • MCI is a 10-month pastoral coaching program involving a combination of personal coaching, group coaching and targeted training designed to unlock the full potential of pastoral leaders through a journey of self-awareness, other-awareness and congregational awareness. MCI is a Lilly grant funded initiative

  • Focus Groups
    • Pastors are invited to participate in a variety of focus groups related to the different dimensions of pastoral ministry.  These may include “Beginning Well”, “Finishing Well”, Compassionate Ministries, and Worship Arts. 

Through Continuing Education and Ministry Training

  • Seminar by the Sea
    • In conjunction with PLNU’s School of Theology and Christian Ministry, pastors are invited to attend week-long Master’s level intensives.  Courses are offered three times a year and are designed with pastoral ministry in mind.  Those in attendance may receive professional development credit.  The cost for attending (auditing) is $75 per course.
  • Ministerial Candidate Workshop
    • In conjunction with the leadership of the Church of the Nazarene across the Southwest, district licensed ministers and their spouses are invited to participate in a three-day consultation on the PLNU campus.  The workshop is offered each year annually in English and every other year in Spanish. 
  • Pastors’ Days
    • In conjunction with the Wesleyan Holiness Consortium and/or the PLNU School of Theology and Christian Ministry, pastors are invited to participate in one day seminars on topics relevant to ministry in the current context.  The seminars are available both on campus and online. 
  • Sabbatical Resources
    • For pastors planning a sabbatical, we have put together a sabbatical resource packet as well as contact info for possible retreat venues.  Please click HERE to access those resources.

Retreats and Conferences

  • Moral Integration Gatherings
    • Pastors and church leaders are invited to attend an annual three day discipleship conference that integrates Wesleyan Theology and Virtue Science in the development of Christian character.
  • Pastors and Leaders Conference (PALCON)
    • In conjunction with the International Church of the Nazarene, pastors are invited to a four day conference once every four years.  Worship services,  a wide variety of ministry related seminars, and programs for the whole family are offered. 
  • Latino Wesleyan Conference
    • A three-day conference to reflect on the contemporary challenges of Latino communities with a Wesleyan missionary perspective. The date and place where it is celebrated vary from year to year and are announced several months in advance.

Strategic Planning

  • Ministry Consultations
    • Coaching and ministry consultations are available for Spanish language congregations, youth and young adult ministry, and urban and multi-congregational ministry. 
  • Research
    • In conjunction with the Research Center for the Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, the CPL staff conducts ministry-related research including  changing demographics and congregational trends.
