I'm confused about which logo I should use. What’s the best option?
In most cases, the best choice is one of PLNU’s three primary marks: Horizontal, Vertical, or Acronym. The Horizontal logo is our most prominent and widely-used mark, making it the most easily recognizable. The Vertical logo should be used if the formatting does not allow for the Horizontal logo to be used. The Acronym logo is best used when dealing with audiences that already have a strong familiarity with PLNU.
Can I use the President’s Seal?
The President’s Seal is a brand asset that is used with great care. Its use is restricted to the following usage only:
- Office of the President
- Academic-related events (such as Commencement or honor society materials)
- High-end brand communications (such as donor or advisory board materials)
- Heritage or historical context (where the history of PLNU is the primary subject matter)
Note: Use of the President’s Seal must be approved in writing by the Vice Provost prior to publication. MCS will manage that process, please reach out to MCS to request.
Can I use the Athletics logo and mark?
In short, if you're not a NCAA sanctioned athletic team or the Athletics Department, then no. This is true even if your event or department works alongside athletics. The Athletics logo and mark are devised to build support and awareness of PLNU’s NCAA Division II sports programs. It is NOT to be used in place of the PLNU primary logo by academic units or administrative areas of the university that lack a specific Athletics goal or purpose. If marks are used for a specific Athletics goal or purpose, usage must still be pre-approved by PLNU Athletics. For more details on using Athletics marks please email PLNU_Athletics@pointloma.edu
How do I get a logo that includes the name of my department or program?
EPS vs. PNG? CMYK vs. PMS? What logo file type is best for my project?
Use the PMS versions of colors when professionally printing in spot colors and use the CMYK colors for four-color litho and digital printing (check with your printer for the best options). Use the RGB and Hex colors for digital pieces. Use the PNG file of the RGB-color version of the logo for general office use — memos, flyers, meeting agendas, and other digital communications. PNG files are cross-platform and Microsoft Office compatible.

Can I have a specially designed logo for my department, program, etc.? I don’t want to use the university logo.
A folder of premade Department Lockups is available for download in a variety of file formats. If the lockup you need is not available, please reach out to MCS to request that it be made. Please allow at least 3-4 weeks for completion from the time of your request.
The PLNU logo is at its most effective when it's used throughout the university consistently. Alternate logos should not be created.
