Labs and Spaces

Padres pitcher using the biomechanics lab

PLNU + San Diego Padres Biomechanics Lab

This 2,000-square-foot Lab uses motion capture and force platform technology for full-body 3D biomechanical assessments of pitching, hitting, gait, and functional movements. The lab is frequently used by the San Diego Padres and other athletes to improve performance and minimize the risk of injury.

Empty Center for Human Performance Lab

Center for Human Performance (CHP)

The Center for Human Performance is a 3,000-square-foot strength and conditioning training, research, and learning laboratory for sports science and sport performance students. The CHP contains a state-of-the-art gym available for students, faculty, and staff to use free of charge, as well as classes and personal training sessions offered by expert student physical trainers.

Surgical Anatomy Suite

This space provides 12 surgical stations, a prep room, and a dry lab for advanced anatomical education and the opportunity to work with body donors in a live dissection as part of the Anatomy Learning Institute.

Clinical Skills Lab

The skills lab contains individualized simulation-based hospital and clinical stations with high-fidelity mannequins offering fully immersive experiences that prepare physician assistant and athletic training students for a diverse range of patient care and medical scenarios.

Activities of Daily Living Lab

This lab for Occupational Therapy students simulates living in an apartment and contains an office, bedroom, living room, laundry, kitchen, and bathroom.

MSOT students learn in their classroom

Orthotics and Modality Lab

Occupational Therapy students learn how to make splints for patients, use 3-D printing to fabricate adaptive equipment for clients, and gain competency in the application of thermal and electrical modalities.

Movement Lab

Designed to teach OT students how to provide treatment for children with special needs. This lab also includes a hospital environment, and space to learn how to provide rehabilitation for people with physical disabilities.

OSCE Simulation Lab

The Objective Structured Clinical Exam Simulation Lab is made up of six patient-encounter rooms that look like your typical doctor's office and are designed to give students simulated patient-based training, as well as monitoring infrastructure for faculty to observe and provide feedback on students’ performance.
