Powerlifters vs Sport Science
Three elite powerlifters—John Haack, Garrett Blevins, and Kristen Dunsmore—are taken through a common sport science test called the Isometric Mid-Thigh Pull (IMTP) at PLNU's Balboa Regional Center. Watch what happens when unstoppable athletes pull on an immovable bar.
From doctor’s offices to detox diets, the word ‘wellness’ has become commonplace, yet it’s widespread use is riddled with misconceptions and conflicting opinions as to what it truly means. Meanwhile, people continue to experience deteriorating physical and mental health, increasingly stressful living conditions, unrealistic societal expectations, and a growing disconnect from realizing their full potential and innate purpose. The time has come to evolve from simply surviving day-to-day life to truly thriving in all facets of life—physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and socially.
Jarret Welsh was already an established chiropractor working with professional teams and athletes when he realized his dream of teaching. Despite all his education and experience, however, he still lacked the certification to actually teach. That's when he turned to Point Loma for its relational and evidence-based kinesiology program — to not only help others learn from his experience, but transform the larger culture of kinesiology.
Ted Vickey. Ph.D.
On many days, walking into Professor Ted Vickey’s class is like walking into the boardroom of a prestigious organization. Students find themselves in positions of leadership where they must work collectively to solve complex, real-world challenges.
PLNU Kinesiology Alumni Shaping Major League Baseball
The connections with MLB teams and biomechanics researchers, as well as the kinesiology department’s fully-equipped lab, puts PLNU students in a unique position to successfully pursue biomechanics as a career.
Opportunities For Engagement
Becoming an expert in human health doesn't just happen within the walls of a classroom — it’s developed through practical experience, internships, and clinical partnerships with hospitals, clinics, therapy offices, training centers, and more throughout San Diego’s burgeoning health sciences industry. These real-world experiences are strengthened by the ability to network and seek mentorship within PLNU’s community of current students, alumni, and faculty. Overall, the College of Health Sciences offers many opportunities for meaningful engagement and personal growth.
