The Next Chapter: PLNU in the 1910s
Charles “Tré” Watkins III, Ph.D., is a husband, father, and native son of Southeast San
Diego. He is an interdisciplinary scholar whose research examines what W. E. B. Du
Bois called Law and Chance, exploring how legal structures, institutions, and social
spaces shape Black life while illuminating the ways Black communities exercise agency
to create places of connection, joy, and freedom. His scholarship focuses on Black
placemaking, digital counterspaces, the role of social media in contemporary student
activism, and career readiness.
Rev. Dr. Josh Sweeden serves as Dean of the Reuben Welch School of Theology & Christian Ministry at Point Loma Nazarene University. An ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and a practical theologian in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, he is committed to integrating theological scholarship, faithful Christian leadership, and service to the Church.
Cynthia Hernandez-Lopez an alumni from Point Loma Nazarene University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in CyberSecurity. In her free time, she enjoys working out, going on runs, learning what's new in tech, and volunteering at her church where she serves and leads their audio team. She is very passionate about CyberSecurity and is looking forward to teaching students who are currently taking the courses and journey that she was previously a part of. She is proud to be able to teach at PLNU as an alumni and be a major support for our students! Go Sea Lions!
Professor Zark brings extensive aerospace industry expertise and legal acumen to his teaching at Point Loma Nazarene University. His professional background includes working on the Delta II rocket, F-35 Lightening II, F/A-18 Hornet, and the E-11A.
Outside of the classroom, he is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys swimming, biking, and exploring national parks with his wife and kids.
